Ever since the Industrial Revolution, investments in math, science and technology have proved to be reliable engines of economic growth. If homegrown interest in those fields is not regenerated soon, the comfortable lifestyle to which North Americans have become accustomed will draw to a rapid close.

Students in the MST Leaders program will take seven courses as a cohort, and will have access to learning opportunities outside of the classroom. The students in the MST Leaders program at Mowat will have access to many enriching opportunities such as:

1. Access to Math, Science and Computer Science contests & Robotic and Science Fairs

2. Networking opportunities with local partners in the area

3. In school leadership development with equity Affinity Groups, Student Equity Planning Advisors (SEPA), and Mowat’s Student Council (SAC) and many more

4. Enrichment opportunities to teach and showcase the skills necessary to succeed in their chosen post secondary pathways

5. Recognizing student voice, choice and identity

6. Extracurricular clubs, committees, councils and teams

Core Grade 9 Courses in MST Leaders:

Students will develop a foundational understanding of the land in Rouge National Park in an immersive outdoor experience through the use of numeracy skills and current technologies.

What does the program look like?

Core Courses in MST Leaders:

Students will develop a foundational understanding of the land in Rouge National Park in an immersive outdoor experience through the use of numeracy skills and current technologies.

Students in MST Leaders program will research various local/global climate change, sustainability and the environmental issues that affect the land, its history, culture prior to colonization and its current uses.

  • SNC2DP (Science)
  • CHC2DP (History)
    • All courses are mandatory and all students are cohorted together

Students in MST Leaders program are working toward their personal post-secondary pathway (university, college, apprenticeship, workplace) 

  • All MST Leaders students will take either: NBE3UP or NBE3CP (English)
  • The choice of ONE of the following:
    • TDJ3MP (Technological Design)
    • HSG3MP (Gender Studies)
    • Senior (Grade 11 University or Grade 12 College) Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
    • Co-op opportunities available with links to MST Leaders initiatives

Students in MST Leaders program are working toward their personal post-secondary pathway (university, college, apprenticeship, workplace) and will be able to showcase their project-based initiatives through the program i.e. SAC, SEPA, equity Affinity Groups, and mentoring junior MST Leaders students, etc.
